EL REGRESO DE MÅNESKIN: HONEY (ARE U COMING?)

Image

IRAMA & RKOMI- NO STRESS. ALBUM REVIEW.

Image

UN MES DE 'DESIRE, I WANT TO TURN INTO YOU' DE CAROLINE POLACHEK: HABLAMOS DE 'SUNSET'.

Image

ITALIAN SINGLES CHART: TANANAI AND MANESKIN ARE BACK WITH BALLADS

Image
Both Maneskin and Tananai have returned with new singles this October and we couldn't finish the month without talking about them: Tananai released an unexpected ballad a few weeks ago, 'ABISSALE' as a single. It is surprising because, as I said in my previous post about the Italian artist , he usually includes some humor in his songs and in his videos, but in Abissale there is not a trace. The single comes after releasing 'Pasta' and reigning on the Italian chart throughout the summer with Fedez and Mara Sattei on 'Dolce Vita'. Abissale is an honest, heartfelt piece reminiscent of 2000s Italian balladry and Italian cantautori genre, tapping into Tananai's gruff voice. In it, he talks about how special the girl he is in love with is and how he has tried to be special to be by her side, but he has not succeeded. The text is simple but very poetic , framed by that negative sky that appears on the single’s artwork. The video, directed by Borotalco,

LISTA ITALIANA DE SINGLES: TANANAI Y MANESKIN VUELVEN CON BALADAS.

Image

ONE YEAR OF TEATRO D'IRA. MANESKIN-VENT'ANNI REVIEW.

Image
A few weeks ago, on March 19, it was the one year anniversary of Teatro D'Ira Vol. 1 , the second album from Maneskin . The project came just a couple of weeks after winning Sanremo, a commercial technique that is often used to make the most of the contestants' stardom - like Irama has done with Il giorno in cui ho smesso di pensare - On the album, Maneskin tried to fulfill and accomplish their best rock sound after the more pop Il ballo de la vita . Today, we focus on the first single from Teatro D'Ira  , VENT'ANNI, where the band melts in alt-rock guitars -forgetting hard rock for a while- to introduce ballad drums in the closing piece of the album.   Vent'anni is an authentic existentialist poem about the worries of people in their early twenties:  The ambition to leave a mark, idealism, the choices and mistakes we made, the opposition to materialism... Just in the first lines, Maneskin adresses the current topic of nonsense-drama associated with teenagers an

IRAMA- IL GIORNO IN CUI HO SMESSO DI PENSARE REVIEW.

Image
Last Friday Irama released his new album, which follows up his 2020's EP, Crepe . The project comes after the incredible success of Ovunque Sarai, both commercially (the track is certified platinum in less than a month) and critically (Irama scored the 4th position in the Sanremo Festival this year) . Far from his latest latin sound, in  Ovunque Sarai  Irama looks at himself and his feelings. In particular, Irama portrays the feeling of missing someone relying on nature as the artistic reference point. The result is, in a chain of future tenses, a long poem , showing an almost unprecedented depth, artisitic growth and maturity. Irama's vocals on the track raise the track even more, creating an experience, where feeling is the protagonist.  Now, almost a month after the Festival, we get the album, Il Giorno in cui ho Smesso di Pensare.  The record includes featurings from his frecquent producer, Shablo  (and also writer of Ovunque Sarai),   Rkomi, Sfera Ebbasta, Guè, Mace, Wi

SANREMO 2022- FINALE REVIEW

Image
The Sanremo Finale had place yesterday to close this intense week of performances, bets and hopes.   La quinta serata consisted in every contestant singing their song, while the spectators could vote at home. This votes would be sum up to the general ranking product of the rest of the nights. The finale and la serata cover (where every singer had to cover a hit from the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s) didn't modify much the general ranking of the first three nights: Ana Mena only moved one place forward from the first night, letting Tananai in the last place and the podium kept the same (the obvious winners Mahmood & Blanco, Elisa and Gianni Morandi). We could say the same for Irama, who scored a secure forth place and his highest position with Ovunque Sarai. The contestants tried their best in the finale, with a lot of them moving around the stage or going to the box and asking the audience to participate in their performances. Some pronounced speeches to complete the whole meaning of

PRIMA SERATA- SANREMO 2022

Image
The famous Italian Song Contest  returned to its original date and to the Ariston theater . Yesterday Sanremo 2022 started with the first twelve performances (the other 13 will have place tonight) to end with the Sala Stampa  (TV, radio and webs) voting, giving the first place to Mahmood & Blanco's Brividi. The winner will represent Italy at Eurovision, but that seems secondary. The impact of participating and winning Sanremo is bigger: You get cualified as an artist. Apart from that, is a true walkabout. Yesterday 10 million people watched the gala. Advertising, special guests and sketches and jokes  prolonged the gala and made it last more than four long hours, letting Rkomi and Ana Mena's  performances almost to the end of the show. Let's have a look to some moments of  the night! 1. Maneskin returns to the Festival after winning last year: It's been a crazy year for Maneskin and returning to the same, exact place where all started was hard for the band, with

CYRANO BY FRANCESCO GUCCINI.

Image
In 1996 the Italian singer and songwriter Francesco Guccini published Cyrano as one of the songs from his album D'amore, di morte e di altre sciocchezze. The track, written by Giancarlo Bigazzi, Beppe Dati and Guccini, has aged as one of the best cantautori pieces.  In it, Guccini transforms in Cyrano, the famous protagonist of Edmond Rostand 's drama, to do social criticism and ends up making one of the most moving declarations of love to Rossana, Cyrano's lover.  His interest on literature is not unusual; he is a poet and has written other songs about other magna opera, like about Don Quixote .  1. Cyrano de Bergerac: Cyrano is the perfect Romanticism's hero (even if the play is from 1897). His big nose moves him away from the society, which makes fun of him. Consequently, Cyrano has learnt to defend himself with bravery, haughtiness and courage.  He is in love with Rossana, his cousin, but he's afraid of telling that he loves her. Meanwhile, Rossana loves  Christ

RKOMI GOES ALT-ROCK WITH HIS SINGLE 'PARTIRE DA TE'.

Image
Italian rapper Rkomi dropped his third studio album, Taxi Driver , in April. Inspired by the Martin Scorsese film, the album is certified double platinum in Italy and Rkomi has reached  number one in the singles chart, with 'NUOVO RANGE' (ft Sfera Ebbasta). The album includes fourteen tracks and ten of them are featurings. Rkomi recruits a great line-up of Italian pop, from his frequent collaborator Ernia to Irama and Italy's King of trap, Sfera Ebbasta. Today I am going to focus on one track that isn't a feature, 'PARTIRE DA TE'. It probably is the piece with the biggest rock sound on the record. Since the beginning, the alt -rock electric guitar riff captivates you, which is emphasized by the piano that makes you immerse in the song and the rhythm. Despite the music is not written by Rkomi, this inclusion isn't casual, as he confessed to Billboard Italy that he's learnt to play the piano during the pandemic. In the chorus, Rkomi is helped by the a-cap

MANESKIN: THE PHENOMENON.

Image
The phenomenon is not only European: The Italian group scores their first entry on the Billbard HOT 100 with Beggin' (#78).  Since they won the Eurovision Song Contest, back in May, the band has experienced a huge ascent in popularity. Let's analyse the keys to this phenomenon step by step: 1.SUCCESS IN ITALY   Maneskin did not win X Factor (Italy) in 2017, but they were so close, and throughout the whole contest, they showed they had something special. In fact, they did since the very beginning: Their first audition felt like a freestyle and was later a track ( Chosen ) in their first project. The message of that song was basically  'I was born to do this', to be an artist. Damiano's fluency while moving onstage and the message did the rest and convinced the judges. Throughout the contest, they showed their passion for rock, covering The Killers' Somebody told me . They also covered Beggin ', their biggest hit yet.  Moreover, they did not only had the rock

WHY IRAMA'S 'LA GENESI DEL TUO COLORE' REFLECTS 2020 AND THE PANDEMIC.

Image
Italian artist Irama presented La genesi del tuo colore for 2021's San Remo festival, the biggest Italian music contest. It scored the fifth position, even with covid-19 difficulties:A member of his staff tested positive and Irama and his team had to cancel the rest of the performances and be in lockdown. Irama could just perform the song once and the clip was repeated in the following nights. The song is illustrative of these times and of 2020, especially. Here's why it represents everything we have lived and we're living with the pandemic: 1. The Lyrics:  The lyrics are truly poetic, from the beginning. The song was described by Irama as 'an anthem to life' and that's what is shown throughout the whole piece. Life triumphs in each verse: 'There won't be no snow to break a tree' the tracks states in its first words. There is no better symbol of life than nature and a tree fighting for life, to spring, and life is going to make through in spite of ev
