Este año los premios se celebrarán a mediados de septiembre en lugar de a finales de agosto, como era costumbre. Antes de ayer se revelaron las nominaciones a los premios  MTV Video Music Awards , que han llegado más tarde de lo habitual, ya que se ha pospuesto la fecha de la gala. El anuncio de los nominados se produce después de que la ceremonia haya ido perdiendo relevancia, audiencia e impacto en los últimos años.  Existen varios problemas en las nominaciones de los últimos años y es que , por una parte, uno no se aclara de si se nominan los vídeos o las canciones . Con los nombres de Best Pop o Best R&B es difícil distinguir, pero más aún las categorías de Mejor colaboración y de Artista del Año . Además, al leer los nominados, se tiene la sensación de nominar en muchas ocasiones nombres y no la calidad de los vídeos ni de unas propuestas audiovisuales arriesgadas.
