HOW PUNK AND LATE 90s, 2000s NOSTALGIA SHAPED A WHOLE GENERATION OF ARTISTS.

On Thursday Machine Gun Kelly released the video for ' Forget Me Too' (featuring Halsey). The song stood out from the rest of MGK's new album songs , Tickets to my Downfall, where he forgets rap to be a pop-punk star. On the track , Halsey's autotuned voice remembers of Evanescence and her look in the video does too.   His partnership with Travis Barker from Blink-182 , who also appears in the video, began in ' I think I'm Okay' (ft. Yungblud) , included in his 2019 project , Hotel Diablo . With inspiration from Blink-182 and Fall Out Boy, there are tracks that reproduce the same pop-punk spirit as the 2000s ones and others that have a modern spin ( 'My Ex's Best Friend' , feat Blackbear). Other artists influenced by 90s bands are Twenty One Pilots and Post Malone. Both artists covered an Oasis classic (' Don't Look Back In Anger ') for Leeds Festival in 2019. Post Malone, despite having great success doing rap, he sounds more authen

ART & THE 1975

Image
This post is the first one of a new section, called ' Music & Visual Art'. Its purpose is to show the connection between music and other arts, specially visual arts. The point is proving how ,with the help of other arts , we can get to reflect the same that music does. In this first post the focus will be on THE 1975. Its frontman, Matty Healy appreciates and is so into different ways of art (painting, fashion and music ,of course). In an interview with GQ, he admits that ,for musicians, the ' live show is (their) c urrently artistic statement visually'.  That is probably why he also uses visual design. Talking to Pitchfork for the  On the records section, where Matty broke down all of the 1975's albums,he described the first one  as an ' Apocalyptic teenage romance' . He wanted the album's art to be ' nostalgic (...) , but also modern' , something that completely relates to the project . Black and white with some classic typography and

VMAS 2020 NIMINATIONS ARE HERE: SNUBS, NEW CATEGORIES....

Image
The nominations for the 2020  MTV VMAS have been announced . They are always controversial. This joins to the special circunstances that surround the awards. First, due to the cornavirus and the resulting lockdown , artists have not been able to shoot videos during this time, which has lead to an animated videos' avalanche . The VMAS answer to the situation creating two categories : 'BEST MUSIC VIDEO FROM HOME' and 'BEST QUARANTINE PERFORMANCE'. Despite this two categories , in the others there is no place for a video improvised during lockdown. The nominations in the big categories do not include any video of this nature . This drives artists to depend on having recorded videos for their music before lockdown. If not, better forget about a nomination for the biggest categories (well, the only exception may be  Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber's STUCK WITH U ). One of the biggest categories is Video of The Year . The nominees are Billie Eilish (Everything i wante

MY SELECTION OF BBC RADIO 1 LIVE LOUNGE PERFORMANCES

Image
I'm a big fan of this BBC Radio 1 section , in which the guest artist performs live some of his/her (recent) records or singles and , moreover, does a cover of a song chosen by him/her. This gives listeners and fans some notions about the musical taste of their favourite artist and proves the skill artists have to give their touch to an another singer's song. Here there is a list with some of my favourites: 1. Christine and the Queens:  Her Beyoncé's 'Sorry' cover was nominated to 'Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year' in 2016. She absolutely changed the song by adding an 80s vibe, the bass and making the song more melodic and pop. She took the song to the dancefloor and added her charasteristic Michael Jackson-inspired vocals. Of course, Heloise sang in French!  : Christine has visited more times the Live Lounge including when she went with Charli XCX to perform 'Gone' and brought a 90s retro vibe to 'TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME' by the 19

THE FEARLESS THE 1975

The 1975 has released  'Notes On A Conditional Form' , the successor of 2018's 'A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships' . Since August, the band has been releasing singles, giving us a taste of the variety of genres that would be on the record: The punk anthem 'People' , which gots Matty Healy singing violently , as a warrior ; The retro-90s-dance track 'Frail State of Mind' , the 2000s pop-rock inspired love story 'Me & You together song' and the country influenced  'The Birthday Party'.  In april, they published 2 singles : Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America (ft. Phoebe Bridgers) showing the 1975 is unafraid of talking about controversial topics (homosexuality and religion) and If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know), their most commercial successful track yet (reaching number 14 on the UK Official Chart). This song gets back the usual topic on the last album, oline relationships, and has got a similar energy to It's Not Liv
