MY SELECTION OF BBC RADIO 1 LIVE LOUNGE PERFORMANCES

I'm a big fan of this BBC Radio 1 section , in which the guest artist performs live some of his/her (recent) records or singles and , moreover, does a cover of a song chosen by him/her. This gives listeners and fans some notions about the musical taste of their favourite artist and proves the skill artists have to give their touch to an another singer's song.

Here there is a list with some of my favourites:

1. Christine and the Queens: Her Beyoncé's 'Sorry' cover was nominated to 'Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year' in 2016. She absolutely changed the song by adding an 80s vibe, the bass and making the song more melodic and pop. She took the song to the dancefloor and added her charasteristic Michael Jackson-inspired vocals. Of course, Heloise sang in French!

:
Christine has visited more times the Live Lounge including when she went with Charli XCX to perform 'Gone' and brought a 90s retro vibe to 'TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME' by the 1975, and when she literally melted 'Kiss It Better' by Rihanna and Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights' into a love ballad.

2.Blossoms: They did a risky mixture connecting 50 Cents's 'In Da Club' with 'Careless Whisper' by George Michael. The rapper piece seemed to be sang by a rock band while 'Careless Whisper' turned the performance more pop . Everything fit together with Tom Odgen voice.
To promote their second album, they went and did an excellent cover of Post Malone's 'Better Now', that could have been perfectly included on  ' Cool Like You'.
Back in August they nailed their Billie Eillish cover.

3. The 1975: Matty Healy recently admitted ( in a Capital FM interview) that he would like his band to collaborate with a massive singer (Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande or Harry Styles). In the Live Lounge they have done covers  of all! . In their 'Sorry' cover they added a saxo and gave a jazzy vibe mixed with Matty's  torn and vulnerable vocals.
The band also slowed down 'Rather Be' by Clean Bandit and transformed into a rock ballad the One Direction track 'What Makes You Beautiful'. In 2018 they did a cover of Ariana Grande's 'Thank u next', approved by the singer, turning it into a joyful Gospel piece.

4. Ariana Grande: It was her first time on the Live Lounge and everybody was waiting anxiously for her cover. She surprised the listeners with a cover of Thundercat's 'Them Changes' , which she described as her favourite song of 2018 and gave to it a femenine touch.
5. Sam Fender: He transformed 'Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored' by Ariana Grande into one of his songs, turning it into rock. In minute 1:17 the drums and a classic guitar  started to play, making it vivider. Sam also added a guitar solo that was the final touch to an excellent version .
In September, he returned to cover Sam Smith's 'Dancing With a Stranger'. He incorporated a saxo and an 80s vibe thanks to the giutars.
