HOW PUNK AND LATE 90s, 2000s NOSTALGIA SHAPED A WHOLE GENERATION OF ARTISTS.

 On Thursday Machine Gun Kelly released the video for 'Forget Me Too' (featuring Halsey). The song stood out from the rest of MGK's new album songs , Tickets to my Downfall, where he forgets rap to be a pop-punk star. On the track , Halsey's autotuned voice remembers of Evanescence and her look in the video does too. 

 His partnership with Travis Barker from Blink-182 , who also appears in the video, began in 'I think I'm Okay' (ft. Yungblud) , included in his 2019 project , Hotel Diablo . With inspiration from Blink-182 and Fall Out Boy, there are tracks that reproduce the same pop-punk spirit as the 2000s ones and others that have a modern spin ('My Ex's Best Friend', feat Blackbear).

Other artists influenced by 90s bands are Twenty One Pilots and Post Malone. Both artists covered an Oasis classic ('Don't Look Back In Anger') for Leeds Festival in 2019. Post Malone, despite having great success doing rap, he sounds more authentic when he goes rock ('Take What You Want' or 'Allergic').

 In a video for Pithfork, Matty Healy explained that  Notes On A Conditional Form was the first time he looked back in time , back to remember and that turned out as a nostalgic spirit on some pieces of the album, like 'Me &You Together Song', 'Then Because She Goes' and 'Guys'. Incredibly, Matty Healy owns a record label ,called Dirty Hit and one of his protegés is Beabadoobe, who has released her debut album just some weeks ago and her first single 'Care' could not be more throwback to the 90s/early 2000s.

The ultimate then pop-star now rockstar is Miley Cyrus, that looked back to the 80s for her single 'Midnight Sky' and now is surprising everyone with her covers of  The Cranberries . It has been rumored that she could be recording an album full of Metallica's covers .

It is clear that 90s and 2000s bands had a deep influence in some of nowadays artists' childhoods and this is bringing pop-rock and punk into a new era of their development.
