PRIMA SERATA- SANREMO 2022

The famous Italian Song Contest  returned to its original date and to the Ariston theater .

Yesterday Sanremo 2022 started with the first twelve performances (the other 13 will have place tonight) to end with the Sala Stampa  (TV, radio and webs) voting, giving the first place to Mahmood & Blanco's Brividi.

The winner will represent Italy at Eurovision, but that seems secondary. The impact of participating and winning Sanremo is bigger: You get cualified as an artist. Apart from that, is a true walkabout. Yesterday 10 million people watched the gala.

Advertising, special guests and sketches and jokes  prolonged the gala and made it last more than four long hours, letting Rkomi and Ana Mena's  performances almost to the end of the show.

Let's have a look to some moments of  the night!

1. Maneskin returns to the Festival after winning last year: It's been a crazy year for Maneskin and returning to the same, exact place where all started was hard for the band, with Damiano  touched and  crying at the end of Coraline. The band first delivered a powerful performance of Zitti e Buoni to return, an hour later, with a brilliant performance of Coraline, where ,while Damiano was singing the final part of the song, Ethan , Victoria and Thomas stood up looking to the camera.

2. BLANCO and Mahmood performed Brividi:The favourites to win the Festival performed a strong piano ballad, which pleased the Stampa and the public (the performance has got a million views in less than 24 hours). Since the beginning, it has been one of the most likely to win, since Mahmood won the festival in 2019 and has established a great reputation as a songwriter (he wrote with Rkomi Partire Da Te, for example) and BLANCO is one of the hottest superstars right now in the country.

3. Rkomi performed Insuperabile:Rkomi continues with the rock spirit in Insuperabile and recalling his succesful album,  Taxi Driver (this week his song 'La Coda Del Diavolo', included on the reedition of the album (ft. Elodie) is number one on the country). The song seems the end of the Taxi Driver era, as he shows in the video, destroying the taxi to move forward in a black car.

His vocals were a little weak, but his charisma on the stage balanced it. The public could make Rkomi get to the final, even if the Stampa placed him in the 8th position.

3. Ana Mena performed Duecentomila ore:There were high expectations for Spanish singer Ana Mena in Sanremo. Her career there has been quite succesfull for some years now, with hits like Una volta Ancora (ft. Fred De Palma) and A Un Passo Dalla Luna (with Rocco Hunt). Precisely, Rocco Hunt is the main writer of this song, making remarkable that Ana hasn't participated in the lyrics or music.

The perfomance's acoustic played against her and the simple staging too. That made everything rely on her voice. Some days ago, Ana described the song as 'a peculiar love story'. If you watch the lyrics there's some toxicity or signs of an unrequited love, but the chorus moves away from the story to reference América Latina with no sense and adding an accordion that doesn´t fit at all in the song and in Sanremo. The performance hasn't pleased the critics, who have given her  the last place. We will see if she can improve her position in the following days.
