THE LACK OF TRANSPARENCY ON BILLBOARD HOT 100.

Image
The purpose of music charts is to know the population's music preferences. The counting on these charts must be very transparent to know what are the most successful tracks in a country. The songs on the top of the charts are considered hits and will define the year in music in a certain country. The charts have also a less positive side :the consequences for an artist to be on top of the charts. Every artist wants to be successful and spread their own music, but, besides that, the effects of having a song on the top 10 are really big. Contrats for advertising brands succeed in a little period of time if your music is successful. You, as an artist, become the center of attention. At the same time, the pressure increases: If you haven't released an album yet, you will have to do it before people lose interest on you. At least, you must drop an EP or another single (so good as the successful one). The one-hit-wonder fobia put pressure on artists that desperately search another so

WHY THE BRITS WERE THE BEST AWARDS CEREMONY OF THE YEAR.

Image
Last Wednesday The 2021 Brits were celebrated. Usually in February but delayed due to coronavirus restrictions, the Brits took the O2 Arena with the best ceremony of the year and the best Brits in years. Despite that, the ceremony lost 860,000 viewers since last year. The Dayly Mail points out that it's because viewers wanted to watch a show focused in music, not in politics (Dua Lipa seems to be the one to blame here for claiming better salaries for frontline workers). Anyway, awards ceremonies are losing more viewers each time: The Grammys had  historic low ratings and the same happened with ACM awards in country music or to the Oscars.  However,  this year's BRITS have been one of the best. Here's why: 1. Dynamism  : The set was a big room with the celebrities sat in tables, like in the past years, but due to social distance , there was more space between the tables, so when winners were announced the artists had to walk a longer distance. This showed the true emotions

2021 GRAMMYS RECAP: THE GRAMMYS GET THE POP CATEGORIES RIGHT BUT SEEM BOGGED DOWN.

Image
The Grammys ceremony was celebrated yesterday. Let's comment the winners list! The first awards given were for the technical ones and for the minor genres. The first important award was Music video of the year , given to Beyoncé, WizKid and Blue Ivy's Brown Skin Girl. It was the first of the night for the Beyoncé and the first one for WizKid and Blue Ivy, included as writer of the song. Her participation is 'singing/talking' the chorus twice. She is the second youngest winner. Beyoncé won 4 Grammys yesterday. With a total of 28 Grammys, she is crowned the vocalist with more grammys in history. It's funny how the Academy keeps on blessing her so hard when she and Jay-z have disregarded and mocked the awards. The same happens with Kanye, who won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Album . If Kanye tries, he can make fun of the Grammys again and win one  next year. For years, winning a grammy was the peak for an artist, who had worked so hard to get there and th

WHY DUA LIPA'S FUTURE NOSTALGIA MOONLIGHT EDITION FAILED TO BE MORE THAN A MARKETING STRATEGY To REVIVE SALES.

Image
Dua Lipa released on February 11th the reedition of her second album 'Future Nostalgia', called 'Future Nostalgia: The Moonlight Edition'. The world was expecting some tracks to dance to, but, when the tracklist was revealed, something changed. Dua lipa decided to include a bunch of bonus tracks that sum up her latest collaborations, from Fever (ft. Ángele) to One Day (ft. JBalvin and Bad Bunny).  Ángele's collab already was far from the album concept, being much darker and far from the disco influences. The Miley Cyrus collab is probably the most similar to the Future Nostalgia record, both remembering the 80s. However, what's the reason for including One Day on the record? A pop-reggaeton track, with no references to the 80s, no disco vibes. The inclusion of these collaborations has made the reedition rely on other people names and it makes you think that they had to search songs to fill the record. The reedition also includes some new songs and the single, W

SPANISH SINGLE CHARTS: OLIVIA RODRIGO'S 'DRIVERS LICENSE' ENTERS THE TOP 5 .

Image
On Wednesday, the Spanish single chart was updated and Olivia Rodrigo's Drivers License peaked at a new position: number 4, entering to the top five. Last week, it entered at number 10. This new peak is surprising; Long-awaited or viral songs which debut in their first week on the top 10, tend to drop out of it the next week.  It is also unexpected because its biggest streaming peak on Spotify was on January 12th (17 million streams),However, the song is rising now in Spain , where the Top 100 is mostly filled by reggaeton or trap tracks (like the rest of the top 10) , that truly reach some stability on the chart. International pop acts do not usually reach these high positions , like Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi (which is still charting but peaked on number 45), Positions (that peaked on number 23) or Harry Styles' Watermelon Sugar (peak position at number 43).  This is also happening to Spanish-pop artists (with the exceptions of Camilo and C Tangana), like Aitana,

THE BEST ALBUMS OF 2020 (TOP FIVE)

Image
  1. Imploding The Mirage - The  Killers.  This album has an incredible way to capture immensity and euphoria (of finding trust, love and unavoidable faith), as it is shown in  the wild synths on My Own Soul's Warning (with Bruce Springsteen's influenced vocals) and Dying Breed . However, it is also able to draw peaceful joy , like in the serene 'Blowback'. The record is an enchantment and delight of finding a new way full of authentic feelings, excellently brought to music. Maybe that belief in authenticity and powerful love is what we needed this year.  2. Foolish Loving Spaces- Blossoms.  The Stockport band succeeds in their complete and finest analysis of love, which makes you swim through alt -rock ('Your Girlfriend' and 'Like Gravity') and pop perfection ('Oh No (I think I'm in Love)' and 'Swimming Brain') .  3 . After Hou rs-The Weeknd. An unexpected bet for pop without leaving R&B . His admiration for 80s pop came just in t

GRAMMYS BLESS BEYONCÉ AND TAYLOR SWIFT, SNUB THE WEEKND, SUMMER WALKER AND LUKE COMBS.

2021 Grammy nominations have been announced. Beyoncé is the most nominated artist this year for the unnoticed Black Parade and for her film for The Lion King:The Gift.  There are big snubs like The Weeknd, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Summer Walker and more. Let's get into it ! 1. Grammys do not know how to classify songs with trapbeats sang by pop singers . It happened with Ariana Grande 's  7 rings, nominated last year for Best Pop Solo Performance and it is  the same with Yummy and Changes. Do you remember the tweets talking bout 'R&Bieber' and that it was like a Chris Brown song? Well, for the Academy is totally pop. Grammys just do not know how to classify the plenty of songs that top the charts and that have mix trap with pop or that are simply trap. I guess The Academy is trying to nominate the new direction of pop music, but forgetting, for example, 80s influenced tracks, as The Weeknd synths tracks ' Blinding Lights'.  2. The Weeknd snub : If there
