CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENS IS BACK WITH 'JE TE VOIS ENFIN'.

Image
Christine and the Queens has unveiled her new single ' Je te vois enfin' two years after releasing the EP 'La vita nuova' and months after releasing the two-track-EP 'Joseph' with two covers ( Freedom by George Michael and Michael Fugain's Comme L'oiseau ) that she performed in the Global Citizen festival. The single is written and produced by herself and mixed by Mike Dean (known for working with The Weeknd or Travis Scott) and hints a new era. Christine is no longer Chris, but just ' Redcar' , as she's been using as username in her socials. The song talks about forgiveness, which could be connected with the archangel Saint Michael references she's been posting.  With the start of a new era, a new and completely different character or persona appears. This time Christine hasn't got her hair cut, but she is always in a classic striped suit with her red, fingerless glove that she started using in the Global Citizen performance and

CALA MIJAS REVEALS THE COMPLETE LINE-UP.

Cala Mijas is a new festival which will take place the three first days of September in Mijas (Málaga, Spain). This week the festival made public the complete line up, transforming this novice festival in one of the most exciting of the year. The festival made its own name with the first artirsts confirmed: Liam Gallagher or Artic Monkeys , among others. The Festival is one of the few stops that the Sheffield band is doing this year in Europe (alongside their performance in Cala Mijas' twin-festival, Kalorama , in Lisbon). The confirmation of their performances, alongside with Blossoms and The Lathums ' defined a line up that was up to Reading & Leeds or the Knebworth concerts and joined together the rock British scene in just one festival. Apart from betting for the British rock scene and the big names ( Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds , The Chemical Brothers ), the Festival hasn't disregarded other genres, adding important names of the latin and Spanish urban genre ( N

ÁLVARO SOLER GOES EDM IN 'SOLO PARA TI' (FEATURING TOPIC).

Image
Some weeks ago, Spanish-German singer shared his new single, Solo Para Ti , featuring the German EDM-producer and Dj, Topic. The collaboration comes after the producer success in 2020 , who scored top 10 hits in almost every European country, like the UK, Germany or Belgium with Breaking me and the follow-up Your Love .  Solo para ti is a simple dance song with some acoustic guitar arranges that remind us that Álvaro Soler is on the track.  The lyrics are really generic and similar to other EDM songs (pretending to be personal but not that much)  and that's maybe the magic of it, the key that could make it work in the charts of many European countries. Because his latest era, Magia ,  hasn't made the same numbers as its predecessors ( La Cintura and Sofía have more than 200 million streams on Spotify, while Magia, the lead-single and album title, hasn't reached 30 million yet, despite peaking on number 28 on the German Singles Chart, almost matching Sofía (which peaked

ONE YEAR OF TEATRO D'IRA. MANESKIN-VENT'ANNI REVIEW.

Image
A few weeks ago, on March 19, it was the one year anniversary of Teatro D'Ira Vol. 1 , the second album from Maneskin . The project came just a couple of weeks after winning Sanremo, a commercial technique that is often used to make the most of the contestants' stardom - like Irama has done with Il giorno in cui ho smesso di pensare - On the album, Maneskin tried to fulfill and accomplish their best rock sound after the more pop Il ballo de la vita . Today, we focus on the first single from Teatro D'Ira  , VENT'ANNI, where the band melts in alt-rock guitars -forgetting hard rock for a while- to introduce ballad drums in the closing piece of the album.   Vent'anni is an authentic existentialist poem about the worries of people in their early twenties:  The ambition to leave a mark, idealism, the choices and mistakes we made, the opposition to materialism... Just in the first lines, Maneskin adresses the current topic of nonsense-drama associated with teenagers an

SIGUE/FOREVER MY LOVE EP REVIEW

Image
J Balvin and Ed Sheeran dropped last Friday a joint EP of two songs with the  original and unseen title of... The titles of the two songs together ! The EP comes after Sheeran has been flirting with Latin music for a while, as he did in Camila Cabellos' s Bam Bam. This time he has tried to speak Spanish (which remains a little unpolished yet).  The EP's two songs ( Sigue and Forever My love ) are the result of an unexpected friendship between the two artists after meeting in a gym in Manhattan last year- Ed Sheeran told Apple Music-.  The first one, Sigue , is a reggaeton track -produced by Tainy- where Sheeran shows he's really into Balvin's world (similar to Sheeran's featurings in the UK rap scene, Stormzy's Own It for example) with  sexual references, showing off and the same thoughtful rhyme, like when he sings 'Sigue que a mí me gusta todo lo que exhibes' ( Continue because I like what you exhib it) - maybe some people commonly use the verb e

THE UNEXPECTED SUCCESS OF TANANAI.

Image
After being last in the Sanremo Festival this year and not convincing la Stampa with his 'Sesso Occasionale', Tananai has experimented a huge chart-success, having two songs on Italy's Top 10 this week ( Sesso Occasionale at number 9 and BABY GODDAMN at number 6). Tananai, who had previously collaborated with the famous Italian rapper Fedez, presented Sesso Occasionale to the famous festival, a track that continued the alternative dance spirit of his music  and that recalls Village People's Y. M. C. A. in the chorus. The song and his vocal performance didn't please the Stampa that placed him in the last places since his first performance.  However, his music has experimented a huge success since then, showing that, despite the place you obtain at Sanremo, the exposition is really big. Even after a month after the festival, the songs from the contest hog Italy's top 50 most streamed songs on Spotify.  Just by performing, the contestants will get their songs i

IRAMA- IL GIORNO IN CUI HO SMESSO DI PENSARE REVIEW.

Image
Last Friday Irama released his new album, which follows up his 2020's EP, Crepe . The project comes after the incredible success of Ovunque Sarai, both commercially (the track is certified platinum in less than a month) and critically (Irama scored the 4th position in the Sanremo Festival this year) . Far from his latest latin sound, in  Ovunque Sarai  Irama looks at himself and his feelings. In particular, Irama portrays the feeling of missing someone relying on nature as the artistic reference point. The result is, in a chain of future tenses, a long poem , showing an almost unprecedented depth, artisitic growth and maturity. Irama's vocals on the track raise the track even more, creating an experience, where feeling is the protagonist.  Now, almost a month after the Festival, we get the album, Il Giorno in cui ho Smesso di Pensare.  The record includes featurings from his frecquent producer, Shablo  (and also writer of Ovunque Sarai),   Rkomi, Sfera Ebbasta, Guè, Mace, Wi

OLIVER BEARDMORE- NOT SINKING, YET FLOATING- EP REVIEW : AN IMMERSION IN SHOEGAZING.

Image
The now London- based singer and songwriter Oliver Beardmore released last Friday his EP, Not Sinking, Yet Floating, which includes his latests singles and two new songs ( Closer and I'm Sure You Know ). The EP gets Oliver's work from the past two years together.  The result is a dive in guitar walls, unbreakable textures and a total immersion in Shoegazing. Even though tracks like Closer or Not Sinking, Yet Floating strengthen the introspection, creating a very dark and gloomy atmosphere, there's also time for more melodic pieces ( Fiesta and With The Heavens On Your Side), closer to modern-pop songwriting.  The guitar is the  protagonist of the collection, cause and effect of the project. The intention to cover the wide sea of the instrument's dimensions leads to have a very alt-rock sound, getting nostalgic mid-80s  and 90s guitars on the EP-titled cut, Not Sinking, Yet Floating .

LES VICTOIRES DE LA MUSIQUE 2022- REVIEW

On Friday  Les Victoires de la Musique had place in  La Seine Musicale (Paris).  Les Victoires de la Musique  are France's most important music awards. They are considered the French Grammys and  they usually award artists from the critic's point of view. Even though they're frequently compared to the Grammys, they are better like the BRITs, for the shortage of the categories. The dearth remains in the number of nominees too, with only three nominees per category (!) , meanwhile there were categories at the BRITs with 15 nominees. Neither too much nor too little- I would say.  There are only 10 categories and 6 of them make reference to the artist's genre (male or female), letting only 7 'pure' categories: Artist Of The Year, Song of the Year, Album Of The Year, Best New Artist, Best Concert, Best Visual Art (or Music Video) and the new category: Album le plus streamé (The most Streamed Album) . This category tries to attract the youth to the Victoires and giv

SANREMO 2022- FINALE REVIEW

Image
The Sanremo Finale had place yesterday to close this intense week of performances, bets and hopes.   La quinta serata consisted in every contestant singing their song, while the spectators could vote at home. This votes would be sum up to the general ranking product of the rest of the nights. The finale and la serata cover (where every singer had to cover a hit from the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s) didn't modify much the general ranking of the first three nights: Ana Mena only moved one place forward from the first night, letting Tananai in the last place and the podium kept the same (the obvious winners Mahmood & Blanco, Elisa and Gianni Morandi). We could say the same for Irama, who scored a secure forth place and his highest position with Ovunque Sarai. The contestants tried their best in the finale, with a lot of them moving around the stage or going to the box and asking the audience to participate in their performances. Some pronounced speeches to complete the whole meaning of
