 Five O Fives dropped their new song, If You Won't Say It' a couple of weeks ago. It's the third single for the band (after the release of ' Something To Do ' back in January) and this time the sound is darker. The track talks about being the  one taking the first step in a relationship :That moment where there's a mutual attraction and interest,but nobody says so, creating insecurity on your perception of the partner's feelings:'If you won't say it, how will I  know?'. This uncertainty burst in some existentialism : 'If you won't say it, where will I go?'.  The track begins with an indie-rock bass, which helps to set the scene,  to then melt with folky percussion at the start of the chorus, highlighting Alice's voice.

 Carly Pearce released her third album on Friday. The album comes as a following part of her 29 EP, dropped in February. The album includes the 7 songs from the EP and eight new tracks.This extension of 29 the EP melts perfectly with the songs unveiled back in February.  It feels like the rest of the chapter, a part of her healing told with all the authenticity.  One of the new songs  is Never Wanted To Be That Girl   with Ashley Mcbride. There 's no  other artist that could drive the song with that honesty than Ashley Mcbride. In her Genius commentary to her song One night standards , she described the song as 'an exercise in honesty'  and that is what  Never Wanted To Be That Girl  is about : Speaking your feelings in such a difficult situation in a relationship;being the other girl.  The nominations for the CMA Awards came out three days ago. The ceremony will take place on November 10th awarding the best country artists, singles and albums of the year (the eligibility period is from July 1,2020 to June 30, 2021). Let's get into the nominations: ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR: This is the biggest award of the night. Eric Church and Chris Stapleton earn a nomination in this category. Both lead the nominations with five each.  Eric Church Luke Combs Miranda Lambert Chris Stapleton Carrie Underwood Church and Stapleton nominations seem reasonable. Both have released projects this year, which could be candidates to 'Album Of The Year'. Luke Combs gets a nomination too. He is one of the biggest country stars nowadays and he has had great chart success with 'Forever After All'.  The only nomination that is a little disappointing for me is Miranda Lambert's. Despite releasing The Marfa Tapes, she's been living by the success of 'Settling down'

 Back in July John Mayer dropped his long-awaited album, Sob Rock.  The project comes three years after the first single (included on the album), New Light , which showed the direction of John Mayer's new music: very synthed and 80s-influenced. This is revealed again  in Last Train Home , with synths that recall Toto's smash hit Africa. To promote this song, Mayer teased it saying 'New music done the old way '. This seems the motto for the album and it really fits together with the sound of it: John Mayer goes back in time, to the 80s to make his new music and looks to the production and arrangements of those times, like in  the Christopher Cross-influenced Shot in the Dark .  The ensemble of 10 tracks contains the three previous singles: the mentioned New Light , the soul-pop  Carry Me Away and I Guess I Just Feel Like, which remained closer to the usual Mayer's sound.  In the remaining seven tracks, John Mayer coquets with other genres, from country and western

 Described as an anthem to imperfection, YNES  released a few weeks ago her new single, God's Little Punching Bag.   The song takes inspiration from ' the Britpop revival of the mid-to-late 2000's ' to find beauty writing about the outcasts and terrible days.  On the track, YNES shows a wide vocal range from punk to sweeter vocals, like when she sings 'I like it like that', recalling the-acoustic-Taylor Swift for a moment.  We could say Ynes  was influenced by Taylor Swift's spoken parts in songs for almost the end of the track, but she keeps her pop-punk spirit alive. 'God's Little Punching Bag' is about accepting imperfection - and maybe bad luck too-.  A few days ago the MTV Video Music Awards nominations were revealed. This year's ceremony will take place on September the 12th in New York. It feels like 2021 didn't have a lot of big music videos... Only having memorable moments with Olivia Rodrigo's Drivers License and Lil Nas X's ' Call Me By Your Name'.   Let's get into the nominations! BEST POP: On the one hand, Har ry Styles earns a nomination for TPWK . It seems like MTV is trying to balance out after last year he only received nominations in the technical categories. On the other hand, Justin Bieber, who leads the nominations with seven, is nominated here for Peaches.  It's surprising when the song is included on  Spotify's 'Are and Be' playlist ...Guess this is another attempt of Justin Bieber trying to do R&B and so could tell Ariana with positions , which is also nominated .   The South East Londoner released last month her debut project, Under 25.  In less than two years of releases, Enny has gained the public's and critics attention with her social lyrics. Since the beginning, she has stated what she fights for: Racism,Gentrification, Feminism...There's nothing she won't talk about.  The best example may be the powerful  'Peng Black Girls ', an anthem for diversity and respect for Black women. This song caught Jorja Smith 's attention and made her sign Enny to her record label FAMM. Unlike most rappers of her generation, Enny rarely delivers her message with aggressiveness. Some rappers rely on flexing and lyrics about showing-off to fight for change,but that's not Enny's case. She doesn't need to. Her power and truth is on the lyrics and message.  Birmingham duo Beorma released a few days ago their new single, 'HER'. This one is the second single that isn't included in their 2020's project, Virtual Emotionality. 'HER' drives the duo to a more pure R&B direction, which opposes to their latest single, the EDM/house 'Tears'. 'HER' starts with classic R&B percussion and with Fern's vocals, which balances between Soul and Contemporary or urban R&B. Over minute two, the song gets a vibrant and Prince-inspired guitar solo that lifts ithe track and emphasizes the vocals and R&B instrumentation. This is even more stressed with the well-arranged production.  Concerning the lyrics and message of the song, it's about a painful break-up that ends up with an honest declaration of love to her ( I love her / Everytime you call me I hope it's her), making the track a possible Pride anthem which could have been released on June the 28th.  Midland dropped ' The Last Resort ' a few weeks ago. It's the second project from the band this year: In March, they released The   Sonic Ranch , an album made of their old and unreleased songs.  Now, The Last Resort is the first collection of new songs since their second album , Let it Roll in 2019. Despite the EP only includes five tracks, it's a pleasant listening.  The sound contains some rock and electric guitars that melt with Midland's classic country sound. The result is delicious.  The first piece is the post-break-up And Then Some , with mellow sadness. This start is much closer to their origins on The Sonic Ranch . There is a bittersweet feeling in every song (except from Two To Two Step , that will get you dancing), which is far from the debauchery and living to the max of the 21st Century Honky Tonk American Band...
