EDUARDO CASANOVA BRINGS HIS AESTHETICS INTO MODERN MUSIC.

Eduardo Casanova is a Spanish actor and  director, who gained popularity after the premiere of Pieles,2017(Skins), his first film  after directing and writing some short films. Even in his first short films, Eduardo Casanova established his aesthetics firmly ,like the prevalence of pink and lavender.

Let's dive into Eduardo Casanova aesthetic world!

He mixes the old and the new ,the aesthetically socially considered perfection (pastel colour palette) with what is socially disregarded and often branded as ugly , like in Pieles , where he shows different stories starring by people with physical and emotional defomities.

Pastel colours create a shimmering spirit, making it feel as a different world, full of fantasy and sometimes, difficult to distinguish from a dream, and that has been brought to music, by the music videos directed by Eduardo.

There are only four music videos directed by Eduardo Casanova. Starting in 2014, with SMS's 'Un día más' . The aesthetics and images agree with his creative style(pink, traditional furniture), but it is driven into pure perfection in the following videos.

The second video  (C Tangana's 'Cuando Me Miras') was shot after Pieles and it recruits Lle Godoy, who appeared in the film and Úrsula Corberó. Eduardo Casanova told to Spanish newspaper EL PAÍS about the inspiration for the video. It is based on some of the most famous Reinassance's works of art, like the Pietá ,or Mantegna's Saint Sebastian, connecting with trap's passion of including religious artwork in their videos.

As always, everything is surrounded by pink and roses, which appear almost in every video. It ends with the frame of the rapper hanged because of love or the success and the fame of the idol, close to C Tangana's 'ÍDOLO' mixtape philosophy. The song talks about love and how it drives you to be absent-minded, leaving aside the alpha male impression predominant in other C Tangana's videos .

Despite, Eduardo Casanova has been releasing videos through the years, his latest were premiered last September :Delaporte's Las Montañas and TINI's Duele, featuring John C . The first one, as it is explained in the description, is about the singer making sacrifices for the devil , represented by a ramp. In return, she ascends, empowered. The light in the video makes the bodies seem sculptures and make the singer look as a Virgin with long, reddish hair as Symbolism and Waterhouse's paintings (Windflowers or The Lady of Shalott).

The last one is TINI's 'Duele' (ft. John C). Of you had seen other videos directed by Eduardo, you maybe guessed that is was an Eduardo Casanova video. As the singer explained in a post, the song is about a girl with emotional dependance for a boy, who ignores her. Finally, she realises she does not need a man and dances in the hands of a women (her own Renaissance, inspired on The Birth of Venus by Boticelli).
The first scene, the blue, handmade sky is the good side of the love story. The roses' thorns symbolised the pain ,the hurting of the relationship. Jonh C appears in a glass cabinet as he is unattainable, out of reach.
                                               Tini about Duele

As we see, the inspiration in Renaissance artists is common in Eduardo Casanova's videos, but that does not stop the development of his own aesthetics universe.

Eduardo Casanova's work is an evidence of how music and other visual arts are connected and how a song can transcend due to visual art.
